Method to calculate Body Fat
This calculator uses equations developed at the Naval Health Research Center by Hodgdon and Beckett in 1984.
- It’s important to measure the circumference of the subject’s waist and neck at the level with the smallest width, to obtain accurate measurements. The subject should avoid flaring their neck outwards. It is also important to measure the circumference of the subject’s hips at the largest horizontal measure.
- To measure your waist circumference, take a tape measure and measure around your navel. Be sure to breathe normally and let your stomach be relaxed when you take this measurement.
- For women only: Measure the circumference of the subject’s hips at the largest horizontal measure.Remember to measure three inches above and below the gluteal fold.
Body Fat Formula for Man
USC Units :
BFP = 86.010×log10(abdomen-neck) – 70.041×log10(height) + 36.76 |
Body Fat Formula for women
USC Units :
BFP = 163.205×log10(waist+hip-neck) – 97.684×(log10(height)) – 78.387 |
Body fat, or body composition, is the percentage of your weight that’s made up of fat tissue. Since fat isn’t necessarily all bad for your health, calculating body fat percentage as a way to determine health can be misleading.
Other Method BMI :
The BMI method uses the body mass index (BMI) and height to determine if a person is overweight or obese. It is slightly more accurate than waist measurement alone, but still relies on an assumption that as a person gains weight, their fat will increase proportionately to their muscle and water storage.
